Three local residents were arrested overnight on charges they plotted to manufacture methamphetamine. Acting on a tip from an off-duty Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy who spotted individuals buying items related to the manufacture of methamphetamine at a local discount store, police made three arrests. 24-year-old Daniel L. Bullock of Fairfield was arrested at the local Wabash Valley Service Company plant where he was allegedly stealing anhydrous ammonia. Then, 40-year-old William Connor Morlan and 20-year-old Sonali M. Gammon of Fairfield were arrested following a vehicle stop near Fairfield Community High School. County Sheriff's Deputies then executed a search warrant at Morlan's home on Wilson Street and recovered a number of items that police say are commonly used to make meth. All three suspects have been lodged in the Wayne County Jail.

An Illinois State Police squad car was damaged Friday following a vehicle stop on Markham Road south of Sunswept Road in Jefferson county. The trooper originally stopped a vehicle for a lighting violation. Police said the driver then backed up and hit the squad car before fleeing from the scene. A fire then erupted in the vehicle, with police later discovering items consistent with a meth lab. Police are continuing their invesitgation and search for the driver.

Wayne County has been ranked number one in the number of drug arrests, drug seizures, and other drug related crimes among the state's 66 rural counties. From 1994-2003, the number of arrests for drug offenses jumped 800%. Most of the drug cases are meth related, according to statistics provided by the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority.

There were tense moments and heightened courtroom security this morning after meth manufacturing suspect William Connor Morlan uttered threats towards a co-defendant Daniel Bullock. The court reporter and a number of Ill. Dept. of Corrections officers overheard Morlan say "I'll get him" to another co-defendant, Sonilee Gammon. Judge Joe Harrison ordered that a record of the incident be made and Dept. of Corrections officials be advised of the incident.

A 40-year-old Salem man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to unlawful possession with intent to manufacture a controlled substance. Harlis Atteberry of England Road was arrested in February after Patoka Police and Marion County Sheriff's Deputies discovered a rolling meth lab in his pickup truck following a high speed chase that ended in a crash. The chase began on U.S. 51 in Patoka and ended when Atteberry abruptly stopped near the intersection of Marshall Creek and Britt Roads and a Marion County squad car struck the rear of his truck.
25-year-old David Brock Wade of West Schwartz in Salem was sentenced to 30 months in prison for unlawful transportation of anhydrous ammonia.
20-year-old Sonali Gammon of Folk Art Lane in Bluford was sentenced to 18 months in prison after probation on a charge of unlawful possession with intent to manufacture methamphetamine was revoked.

wow... Southern Illinois has to be the meth capital of the Mid-West... Sounds like its getting pretty ridiculous.

It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.

Bond has been set at $250,000 for a 28-year-old Centralia man who allegedly pointed a gun in the face of Centralia Police officer Jamie James during a foot chase Tuesday morning. Teddy Brown of South Locust was formally charged with a class 'x' felony of armed violence for possession less than five grams of methamphetamine while armed with a handgun, unlawful possession of weapons by a felon and aggravated assault for allegedly pointing the gun at James. The incident occurred in what started as a vehicle pursuit that turned into a foot chase after Brown allegedly crashed into two parked cars. During the foot chase, Brown allegedly turned around and pointed the gun in James' face. James was able to tackle Brown to the ground without the gun discharging.
Bond was also set at $50,000 for Renee Woods of South Walnut in Centralia after she was charged with unlawful possession of less than 15 grams of methamphetamine.
